Front-end Lead at Curie – a Europe-based platform transforming academic research

Curie is a self-funded, fast-moving European startup building a next-generation research collaboration platform — a cross between ResearchGate, Google Scholar, and GitHub. Designed for students and professors, Curie combines powerful collaborative features with advanced reading capabilities (PDF, ePub, HTML), semantic search, and performance-driven UX. The internal alpha launch is in a few weeks, with private beta and public release following shortly after.

We’re looking for a Front-end Lead who is obsessed with performance, detail, and technical quality — not just aesthetics — and wants to build something truly useful at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead frontend development and take ownership of the UI architecture and component design

• Build fast, technically robust, and elegant user interfaces using React and Next.js

• Optimize performance, loading speed, and responsiveness for heavy user loads

• Work closely with the backend, ML, and product teams to ship features quickly

• Implement collaborative UI components, a custom PDF reader, and other complex interface elements

• Ensure technical excellence across browsers, platforms, and devices

What you'll bring

• Expert-level experience in React and Next.js

• Proven ability to create high-performance , highly optimized frontend applications

• Strong focus on the technical quality of frontend code: architecture, scalability, speed

Bonus Points

• Experience with Electron.js , React Native , or similar frameworks for native desktop/mobile support

• Familiarity with the Mantine component library

• Exposure to Node.js and Fastify (their backend stack)

• Background in B2C products with a large user base or high performance requirements
