The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC - Myeloma has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Post Doctoral Associate to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
2. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
3. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
4. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
5. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.
6. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education: PhD, MD degree required

Experience: No previous experience required

Department Specific Functions

This post-doc will work in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Walker utilizing pre-clinical models of Multiple Myeloma, which is embedded in Sylvester’s Myeloma Institute (Director Dr C. Ola Landgren) which is a world-class Center of Excellence for clinical care and cutting-edge research focused on multiple myeloma and its precursor conditions. Sylvester’s Myeloma Institute is part of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (Director Dr. Stephen Nimer), the only NCI designated cancer center in Southern Florida.

The successful applicant will use and develop patient-derived xenograft models to determine clonal progression of the disease and optimize treatments. The person will use these models to develop novel treatment strategies and determine the efficacy of targeted treatments using genomic information. They will work with the team and external collaborators to develop humanized mice for use with current immunotherapies.
