Job Description

About the Role - As a Domestic Distribution Manager, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the efficient movement of goods within a domestic context. You’ll play a crucial role in managing the logistics process for land-based transportation, ensuring timely delivery of cargo across the country. Your expertise will contribute to optimizing supply chain operations, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Domestic Transportation Coordination:
  • Collaborate with trucking companies, railroads, and other inland carriers to arrange shipments within the country.
  • Negotiate transportation rates, contracts, and service levels to achieve cost efficiency.
  • Monitor transit times and ensure timely pick-up and delivery of goods.

  • Route Planning and Optimization:
  • Evaluate transportation routes, considering factors such as distance, traffic and efficiency.
  • Optimize delivery schedules to minimize transit time and reduce costs.
  • Address any route deviations or unexpected delays promptly.

  • Documentation and Compliance:
  • Prepare and review shipping documents, including bills of lading, delivery orders, and customs paperwork.
  • Ensure compliance with domestic regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.

  • Inventory Management:
  • Work closely with warehouses and distribution centers to manage inventory levels.
  • Monitor stock movement, replenishment, and stockouts.
  • Implement strategies to improve inventory accuracy and minimize holding costs.

  • Cost Control and Budgeting:
  • Manage transportation budgets, tracking expenses related to freight, RACs, and handling.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze budget variances and adjust strategies as needed.

  • Risk Mitigation:
  • Anticipate and address potential risks in transportation, such as weather disruptions, accidents, or labor strikes.
  • Develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions to the supply chain.

  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Liaise with internal teams (such as procurement, sales, and customer service) to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Communicate delivery status, delays, and any issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Partner with 3PL leadership on continuous improvement programs, driving sustainable processes to support business growth.
  • Foster strong relationships with carriers and service providers.

Qualifications - [Education details]

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in inland logistics, transportation, distribution and 3PL warehouse operations.
  • Experience with automated facilities strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in logistics software, route optimization tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of domestic shipping regulations, transportation modes, and industry trends.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
