Collins has an opening for a Construction Inspector/Field Technician in our Virginia Beach Virginia office. This role offers the chance to work with industry leaders while using innovative technology. The Construction Inspector/Field Technician is an integral part of the construction management team and will work under the guidance of the Project Leader (Resident Engineer).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities :

• Conducting inspections scheduling and oversight of heavy highway structural projects.
• Solve technical problems and steward solutions through the delivery process.
• Responsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality performance and specifications for assigned construction activities.
• Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
• Assists in the completion of reports.
• Keeps resident engineer informed of workload and any daily activities.
• Is active in technical societies.
• Proactively interacts with the contractor to track crew work and equipment on the project.
• Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
• Field work required which could include nights and weekends.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

• A 2-year technical degree or experience in the trades. General engineering knowledge of staging structural construction electrical construction utility construction roadway construction and bridge construction.
• Extensive use of Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel and construction management databases/tracking software is required for this role.
• Ability to obtain certifications for material sampling/testing for aggregates concrete asphalt grading etc. (ACI NICET or state certifications)
• Ability to obtain certifications for inspection of roadways bridges coatings etc.(NICET or state certifications)
• Valid drivers license.

• While in the field the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions work in adverse weather conditions and stand up to eight hours or more at a time.
