Job Description
Our client is looking for an Anatomic Pathology Supervisor based out of their lab in Fort Myers, FL.
Shift time: Tuesday-Saturday, 2:00pm-10:30pm
Position Summary: The Anatomic Pathology Supervisor has the overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and personnel in the Anatomic Pathology department. The Anatomic Pathology Supervisor is responsible for performing duties to meet quality assurance, safety and accreditation requirements in the laboratory. The Anatomic Pathology Supervisor also oversees a variety of projects that can be delegated by the Director of Laboratory Operations or Medical Laboratory Director.
Core Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Anatomic Pathology laboratory and supervision of the technical and support staff
- Initiates and monitors quality control and quality assurance programs for the laboratory; assures compliance with regulations; monitors all quality metrics and ensures that corrective actions are documented and implemented
- Sets standards, policies, and guidelines for the efficient management of the Anatomic Pathology laboratory
- Ensures that the Anatomic Pathology laboratory staff is trained and compliant with Standard Operating Procedures and competency checklists
- Oversees, plans, and prepares for inspections
- Ensures departmental Standard Operating Procedures accurately reflects the current process; updates Standard Operating Procedures as needed
- Sets department objectives and performance goals; monitors personnel and resource utilization on an ongoing basis and makes adjustments in staffing to facilitate achievement of the goals and objectives
- Drives personnel management activities for the department; conducts selection interviews, hires personnel, trains, coaches and develops employees
- Conducts performance appraisals, documenting deficiencies, developing plans for improvement and counsels employees
- Monitors laboratory work performance to determine staff resources utilization; reviews monthly work statistics and budget reports; establishes work performance standards and adjusts staffing levels as needed
- Ensures that a safe working environment is maintained and that safe work practices are employed
- Maintains advanced knowledge of general and specialty requirements within CAP/CLIA/NYS institutions
- Accountable for the operation of a 24 hour function, including responding to emergencies, and attendance at meetings outside of working hours as needed
Experience, Education and Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences with the addition of the successful completion of a course of at least 1 year experience/training/training course in assigned specialty - OR –
- Master of Arts or Master of Science Degree from an accredited institution with a major in one the chemical, physical, or biological sciences, and subsequent to graduation, has had at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience of which not less than two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level
- 6+ years (in high complexity testing) is preferred in histology laboratory. Experience has a HTL III or Lead Histotechnologist is preferred.
- Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification
- FL: Current state supervisor level license and state technologist license to perform laboratory testing required
